Gochujang is a unique condiment that you can keep in your kitchen anytime to spice up dishes that you create.
Try this delicious gochujang sauce to top off many noodles and salads. Drizzle it over poached or roasted chicken, pork, grilled fish or shellfish. The perfect balance between hot - sour - salty - and sweetness can surely add some Korean pizazz to your creation.
An added bonus is that you can make this sauce well in advance and store it in the refrigerator for a long period of time. It will surely come handy when you are in a rush. That’s a good thing.
Ingredients (makes 1 cup) :
6 tablespoons gochujang
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon onion powder
1-½ tablespoons sugar
¼ Asian pear, peeled, seeded, and grated
¼ sweet apple, peeled, seeded, and grated
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
1 tablespoon corn syrup
1 tablespoon Korean chili flakes, optional
Put the gochujang in a mixing bowl.
Add the garlic powder, onion powder, and sugar.
Grate in the pear and the apple.
Add the lemon juice, toasted sesame seeds, and corn syrup. (The corn syrup will add a nice sheen to the sauce.)
Lastly, if you want an extra spicy kick, add some Korean chili flakes.
Mix everything well. You now have a beautiful sauce to top off many dishes.
Keep the sauce in an airtight container and store it in a refrigerator for up to 1 month. And enjoy the possibilities...
